Once deemed to be one of the poorest neighbourhoods in Toronto, today this beautiful space comprises the largest continuous area of preserved Victorian Housing in North America. Located on the east side of Toronto, neighbouring the corner of Parliament St and Gerrard St, Cabbagetown is one of Toronto’s most popular neighbourhoods. While its residents come from a wide variety of backgrounds they none the less share a strong sense of community spirit & pride in their neighbourhood!

Cabbagetown’s history dates back to the 1840’s when thousands of Irish immigrants settled here after fleeing the potato famine in their homeland. These first Cabbatown residents were very poor, and as such they grew cabbages on their front lawns. This practice has earned the name Cabbagetown, which has remained today.

While Cabbagetown was hard hit by the depression of the 1930’s, the neighbourhood saw a huge turn around in the 1970’s and 80’s, when new home buyers began to move in and restore most of the neighbourhoods collection Victorian Homes.

Cabbagetown is now considered one of Toronto’s most desirable neighbourhoods!
